Target groups

Organize your recipients in target groups to tailor your mailing content perfectly to their needs.

Data management: Under Target groups, you can view and edit your existing data from XPRO. Inxmail no longer manages data differently in Newsletter & Campaigns.

Visibility: If you cannot see certain lists from XPRO, check your settings in the Available lists tab (External systems section > Synchronization navigation item).

Step by step

  1. Open the "Target groups" navigation item.

  2. Click New target group.

  3. Enter a name and a description for your target group.

  4. Specify how you want to use your target group:

    • List: Select a list for your target group. You can use the target group only in this list.

    • Global: You can use global target groups in all lists.

How do I change the list later?

If you want to change the list afterward, copy your target group using the "Copy" icon in the overview table. Then update the copied target group in all mailings and workflows that use it.

  5. Enter one or more target group conditions.

You can choose from the following conditions:

    Recipient attribute

Use recipients attributes (= your column values from XPRO) in order to create your target groups based on them.

System columns are not visible: You cannot select any system columns at this point.

    "Birthday" target group

Use the "contains anniversary (day / month)" operator if you want to commemorate a birthday or other annually recurring event.

The target group will work as intended if you have created a "Date" column for your attribute. We will consider day and month of the birthday or anniversary and compare them with the current day.

Don't use the "is equal" operator for birthdays: Do not use the comparison operator "is equal" if you want to celebrate a birthday or an annually recurring event. The "is equal to" operator also considers the year. It is therefore valid only one single time and not usable for annually recurring events.

    Tracking Permission

Create target groups based on the tracking permission

    • Has given consent to person-based tracking

    • Has not given consent to person-based tracking

What is the tracking permission? The value of the "Tracking Permission" column indicates whether or not your recipients have given consent to person-based tracking of their clicks and openings. Click here for more information on tracking permission.

    Recipient reactions

Create target groups based on the following recipient reactions:

    Openings

    has / has not:

    • opened a specific mailing.

    • opened a specific mailing within a specific period of time

    • opened any mailing from a specific list in a specific period of time

Apple Mail Privacy Protection: If your recipients have Apple Mail Privacy Protection enabled, the email client will automatically download all the images contained in your mailing (including tracking pixels) after they receive it. Since openings in email marketing can only be recorded indirectly through the mailing images being downloaded, manual openings cannot be recorded if they are opened at a later date.

Inxmail counts these automatic image downloads as not being opened in the metrics based on openings. For more information, see: ction.

    Clicks

    has / has not:

    • clicked any link in a specific mailing

    • clicked a specific link in a specific mailing

    • clicked any link in a specific mailing within a specific period of time

    • clicked a link in any mailing from a specific list within a specific period of time

Keep an eye on your performance: Depending on how many mailings you have sent and how much data you have stored in XPRO, your target group conditions might cause major performance problems in XPRO. This applies especially to:

    • Recipients reactions: All target group conditions

    • Mailing dispatch: received more than x mailings within a specific periode of time

Make sure you test your target groups carefully or get in touch with your Inxmail contact person or for more information.

For all target groups based on recipient reactions, pay attention to the interplay with the value of the "Tracking permission" column.

    Mailing dispatch

Create target groups based on the following mailing dispatch conditions:

    has / has not:

    • received a specific mailing

    • received a specific mailing within a specific period of time

    • received any mailing from a specific list in a specific period of time

    • received more then x mailings within a specific period of time

Keep an eye on your performance: Depending on how many mailings you have sent and how much data you have stored in XPRO, your target group conditions might cause major performance problems in XPRO. This applies especially to:

      • Recipients reactions: All target group conditions

      • Mailing dispatch: received more than x mailings within a specific periode of time

Make sure you test your target groups carefully or get in touch with your Inxmail contact person or for more information.

    Subscription date

Select a list and use Subscription date and time as the basis for your target group.

For example, you can use the comparison operators "is greater than" or "is less than" to address all recipients who have subscribed to your list after or before a certain point in time.

Baue auf einer bestehenden Zielgruppe auf und kombiniere sie mit weiteren Bedingungen.

    Nutze dazu die Bedingung:

    • Gehört

    • Gehört nicht

    zu einer Zielgruppe.

  6. Add further target group conditions as required and combine them using "and" or "or".

    Click Check.

  7. Troubleshooting

Code: In the edit view (filter code), you can check whether or not Inxmail has applied your target group conditions correctly in the code.

  8. Click Save target group.

Your target group will be displayed on the overview page. You can now use it in your workflow.

  • You have created a new target group.
