Mailings
Prerequisites
Mailings are always assigned to an event. Therefore, if you would like to create a mailing, you must have first created a corresponding event.
Inxmail GmbH offers a service whereby we will create your mailings for you. Note: Contact your Inxmail contact person or Care-Consulting@inxmail.de for more information.
Main steps
The following diagram provides an overview of the individual steps involved in creating a mailing.
Create mailing
First you must create the mailing. This involves making basic entries, such as the internal name and the sender address (Mailing settings).
Edit the mailing – HTML editor and Mail Builder
In this step, you determine the content and layout or structure of your mailing. There are two different editors available in Inxmail Commerce for this purpose.
The source code of the mailing is entered in the HTML editor. This way, you create the content of the mailing by entering the mailing text directly in the editor. You can integrate images by linking them via the corresponding URLs. In addition to the text and images, you can enter event data into the mailing using placeholders. The placeholder menu is available to you here.
The HTML editor also allows you to execute statements and operations within your mailing. In other words, the mailing editor is not purely an HTML editor, but also processes statements based on the FreeMarker syntax. So you might want to use if statements, for example, to generate different salutations depending on customer attributes. Links and images that you would like to evaluate later with respect to click rates must be provided with tracking parameters in the mailing editor.
The layout of the mailing is controlled using HTML statements.
Detailed information can be found in the section Creating mailings in the HTML editor.
The Mail Builder offers a wide range of options in the user interface that you can use to structure the layout of your mailing. For example, you can use drag and drop operations to move the different layout modules to a suitable position. The text modules or text elements of the Mail Builder also feature a dedicated text editor that you can use to configure different formatting.
You can integrate FreeMarker syntax as code modules in the text editor. You can also integrate event data using placeholders. Links are automatically provided with tracking parameters after entry.
Detailed information can be found in the section Creating mailings with the Mail Builder.
Mailing preview You can use the mailing preview to view the mailing as it will later appear when viewed in the browser. It is necessary to create preview profiles for the mailing preview.
Detailed information can be found in the section Viewing a mailing – ‘Preview’.
Send test mailings You can send test mailings to check the quality of your mailings (Sending a test email).
Mailings with attachments When creating and editing a mailing, it does not matter whether the mailing will be sent later with or without an attachment It is only when it comes to integrating a mailing into a workflow that you determine whether the mailing is to contain an attachment from the source system.
Integrating mailings into the workflow
For your mailing to be sent, you must integrate it into the mailing workflow. This is done not in the mailing editor, but in the workflow editor. Detailed information on how to integrate mailings into a workflow and on the numerous other functions available in the workflow editor is provided in the Workflows section.
Mailings that are already integrated in a workflow can still be edited.
Detailed information can be found in the section Editing a mailing integrated in a workflow.
