Tracking links in external content

You can track links in external content. For this purpose, you need to mark the links with the Inxmail Professional command [%url:content;]. This marking can be carried out within the external content itself or via the XSL transformation.

ImportantIf you provide links in external content with the Inxmail Professional[%url:content;]command, these links will no longer be interpreted as such by standard browsers. Therefore, do not track links in external content if you also want to integrate it into your website, for example. [%url:content;]

The [%url:content;] command may be used solely for personalised tracking in external content. The [%url:content;] command behaves in exactly the same way as the [%url:unique-count;] command, the only difference being that it may be used solely in external content.

Evaluating links in external content

You can determine how often recipients have clicked particular links in a sent mailing.

To do this, you create the Important key figures report. You can generate this report either on the Reports main tab or using the (Display selected reports) button in the mailings table.

In the Important key figures report, all links are displayed with details of the respective link type.

In this example, the first three links are ‘Content’ links (1). They are part of the external content. The next three links are ‘Unique Count’ links (2). These links are part of the ‘actual’ mailing.

Utilising recipient reactions (clicks on links in external content)

You can utilise the recipients’ click behaviour in respect of links in external content for the creation of conditions. For example, you can create target groups for those recipients who have clicked a particular link in the external content.

Detailed information can be found in the section Creating conditions based on recipient reactions.

You can also use the ‘HasClickedContentLink()’ and ‘HasOpenedContent()’ functions, for example when creating a free condition expression (Recipient functions).
