Tracking
Define how to track clicks and openings in your mailings in the Tracking navigation item.
Space
At space level, you can specify by default whether you want to use person-based or anonymized tracking.
Step by step
-
Go to the Tracking navigation item in the settings.
-
Under "Default setting", select how you would like to track by default:
AnonymizedAnonymized tracking does not allow you to draw any conclusions about specific recipients. Still, clicks and openings are unique, i.e. you can use them for your key figures and reporting.
REST API: With anonymized tracking, you cannot collect any data related to specific recipients via REST API either.
Person-basedIf you have enabled person-based tracking, all recipients will be tracked on a personal basis – regardless of their event-based tracking permission.
You can draw conclusions about specific recipients from your tracking data. For example, you can use the REST API to determine which recipients have clicked a specific link in your mailing.
GDPR: Make sure that you have obtained your recipients' consent in another system (e.g. in your CRM) and that you'll only contact recipients who have already given their consent when using person-based tracking. Only this way you can make sure your email marketing is legally compliant.
-
Click
.
- You have changed the default tracking setting for your space.
Correlation between space and event
The default setting will be inherited by all events for which you have not defined anything else, i.e. the space-wide value will automatically be transferred to all events for which you have not set permission-based tracking at event level.
Event
You can set permission-based tracking for individual events.
With permission-based tracking, the tracking type depends on whether or not a specific recipient has given their consent to person-based tracking.
-
Recipients who have given their consent to person-based tracking will be tracked on a personal basis .
-
Recipients who have not given their consent to person-based tracking will be tracked anonymously .
For permission-based tracking to work, you must provide the your recipients' tracking permission via event XML to XCOM. If you do not provide your recipients' tracking permission in your event XML, anonymized tracking will be used as a fallback.
Step by step
-
Click the edit icon for one of your events.
-
In case your event is active: Make sure that you do not interrupt any running processes (e.g. an active dispatch). Then click .
-
(De-)activate the “Tracking depending on tracking permission” checkbox .
-
Click
.
- You have changed your tracking settings for a specific event.
You can change it here or in your event settings: You can (de)activate permission-based tracking for specific events in the space settings as described above. Or you can (de)activate it in the event settings of the event itself.
Mail relay
No tracking for mail relay: By default, tracking is not activated in the case of mail relay. You can activate it if you wish. Contact your Inxmail contact person or Care-Consulting@inxmail.de for more information.
As soon as tracking is activated, trackable features will automatically be given to your mail relay emails and links. You can choose between anonymized and personalized tracking when using mail relay.
GDPR: Make sure that you have obtained your recipients' consent in another system (e.g. in your CRM) and that you'll only contact recipients who have already given their consent when using person-based tracking – also in the case of mail relay. Only this way you can make sure your email marketing is legally compliant.
Permission-based tracking is not possible because there is no event XML in the case of mail relay that you could use to transfer the tracking permission.
In the case of mail relay, only the trackable features of the mailing will be anonymized. Other personal values or parameters will not be anonymized.
