Tracking in Inxmail Commerce
The following contains general information on collecting and processing personal data in Inxmail Commerce.
Personal data voluntarily provided by recipients
You use data or information in your mailings that recipients have provided to you voluntarily. In connection with transactional emails, this is data that customers have entered when making a purchase in a Web shop, for example. Furthermore, subscribers will have provided personal data (such as first name and surname) when subscribing to a newsletter.
Tracked personal data of recipients
Alongside collecting voluntarily provided personal information, Inxmail Commerce also enables you to track your recipients’ reactions and store them. This reaction data relates to the following three actions taken by your recipients:
- Opening a mailing
- Clicking text and image links
- Downloading images in an email program
Based on recipient reactions, you can create interest profiles for your recipients. In this way, you can determine which recipients clicked particular notifications of additional offers or complementary products, for example. You can use this information to personalise your mailings.
Recipients’ consent to person-based tracking
Consent to person-based tracking is not stored or managed in Inxmail Commerce. This must take place in your source system.
Information on whether a recipient has given consent to person-based tracking can, however, be transferred to Inxmail Commerce for further processing. Detailed information can be found in the section Specifying tracking type.
What can be tracked in Inxmail Commerce
In Inxmail Commerce, you can track the following:
- Opening a mailing
- Clicking text and image links
- Downloading images in an email program
How you can track in Inxmail Commerce
1. Person-based tracking
Person-based tracking enables data acquired via tracking to be traced back to the corresponding recipient. Therefore, information on which recipients have clicked a particular link in a mailing, for example, can be determined via the REST API.
2. Anonymised tracking
In the case of anonymised tracking, data acquired via tracking does not allow individual recipients to be identified. Nevertheless, anonymised tracking allows you to determine unique opens and unique clicks, as anonymised opens and clicks are likewise unique. In other words, you can determine precise key figures even with anonymised tracking. The key figures determined using reporting in Inxmail Commerce are therefore independent of the selected tracking type.
With anonymised tracking, data related to particular recipients cannot be determined via the REST API.
3. Permission-based tracking
With permission-based tracking, the tracking type depends on whether the recipient has given consent to person-based tracking. Person-based tracking is used for recipients who have given consent to person-based tracking. Anonymised tracking is used for recipients who have not given consent to person-based tracking.
Detailed information on setting up the various tracking types can be found in the section Specifying tracking type.
Working without tracking
You can work without tracking by deactivating tracking for mailings, text and image links.
Detailed information on how to activate/deactivate tracking can be found in the section Activating tracking.
