Specifying tracking type

In Inxmail Commerce, you can choose between person-based tracking, anonymised tracking and permission-based tracking.

1. Person-based tracking

Person-based tracking enables data acquired via tracking to be traced back to the corresponding recipient. Therefore, information on which recipients have clicked a particular link in a mailing, for example, can be determined via the REST API.

2. Anonymised tracking

In the case of anonymised tracking, data acquired via tracking does not allow individual recipients to be identified. Nevertheless, anonymised tracking allows you to determine unique opens and unique clicks, as anonymised opens and clicks are likewise unique. In other words, you can determine precise key figures even with anonymised tracking. The key figures determined using reporting in Inxmail Commerce are therefore independent of the selected tracking type.

With anonymised tracking, data related to particular recipients cannot be determined via the REST API.

3. Permission-based tracking

With permission-based tracking, the tracking type depends on whether the recipient has given consent to person-based tracking. Person-based tracking is used for recipients who have given consent to person-based tracking. Anonymised tracking is used for recipients who have not given consent to person-based tracking.

Person-based or anonymised tracking is specified for the workspace. Permission-based tracking is specified per event. If, for example, you have specified anonymised tracking for your workspace, this setting applies for all events. Exceptions are those events for which you have specified permission-based tracking. In other words, permission-based tracking at event level overrides the tracking settings at workspace level.
